MARIENNE: “You told the police everything. The Eat the Rich killer. Rhys. The… the cage under the gallery. They’re calling you a hero, Joe.”
JOE: “I’m going to write an ending. For real this time. No stalking. No murder. Just… words on a page. And then I’m going to hand this journal to the detective outside. Page 255 is the confession. All of it. From Beck to Love to Rhys.”
Joe smiles softly. That boyish, bookish smile.
JOE: (softly) “I’ve been in a cage my whole life, Marienne. At least this one has a library.”
The room is sterile. White walls, a single metal table bolted to the floor, a flickering fluorescent light. It smells of bleach and regret.
