The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track is immersive. Wind howls across the rear channels, dialogue remains crisp even when whispered, and the haunting score (by Vince Pope) creeps in with genuine low-end menace. The ice cracking and the discovery of the research station’s frozen dead are stomach-churning in lossless audio.

After a mixed third season, True Detective comes roaring back with Night Country , and Episode 1 (“Part 1”) immediately sinks its hooks in. Pacing is slow-burn but never dull, with unsettling imagery (the “She’s awake” scene) that rivals Season 1’s best moments.
