Russian problem sets are famous for "trick" problems—not cheap tricks, but conceptual tectonic shifts. They force the student to abandon memorized formulas and invent the formula from first principles. Western textbooks are becoming beautiful. Four-color printing, pictures of fractals, glossy stock.
