At dawn, they reached a cliff. Below was a sea of molten caramel—beautiful, but deadly. Bonnie looked back. Altamira glittered in the distance, perfect and hollow.

Her cage had silk curtains, fresh marzipan every morning, and a parrot that sang her praises. She called it safety . The city called it blessing . At dawn, they reached a cliff
Then she did something unexpected. She looked at Kama—truly looked—and said, Altamira glittered in the distance, perfect and hollow
“That’s my name,” she said. “Not ‘sweet cage.’ Bonnie Dolce. Sweet sorrow. Because joy without risk is just waiting to die.”
He tilted his head.
Bonnie trembled. To say oxi was to lose the warm bed, the adoring neighbors, the parrot. To say oxi was to step into the cold, uncertain rain.
