Early screenshots showed muddy textures, a grim color palette of rust and bone, and a protagonist who looked like a homeless Kratos. But something about the weight of the combat — enemies reacting to every punch, walls crumbling in unique ways — captured imaginations. Hand of God gained its near-mythic status in 2006 when a Spanish gaming magazine, MeriStation , announced it would include a playable demo on its next cover disc. Forums exploded.
