As he clipped in, a spectral form materialized ten meters ahead. A rider in blue kit, leaning forward with perfect form. The nameplate read: V̸o̵i̸d̷r̸u̷n̴n̴e̷r̸_̸7̷7̸ – a corrupted, glitchy tag. The Ghost didn’t move. It just stood there, head tilted as if listening.

The video was 47 minutes of black screen. But the audio track was intact: wind, tires on gravel, the creak of a saddle. And at the very end, just before the file cut out, a voice. Not a game asset. A real, human voice, raw and exhausted, speaking through a cheap headset mic:

Leo ripped off the VR headset. His apartment was dark. The only light was the monitor, now showing the topo map again, the red dot extinguished. And a new message in the corner of the screen: As he clipped in, a spectral form materialized

This isn’t a top-ten run, Leo realized. This is an old build. A ghost from a version of the mountain that no longer exists.

He pushed off.

Leo had never seen another player’s Ghost. Until today.
